West Track Athlete Spotlight: Tyree Adams

If you look at the leading point scorer on the Boys squad right now newcomer Tyree Adams leads the way with over 40 points.  I coached Tyree as a freshman in football and think it is great that he as been as successful this year in track and in basketball.  We all know that there are many great athletes that walk the halls at Hamilton West.  I have tried to recruit most or all at some point, but it takes more than skill to be successful.  Tyree came out for track and joined the most competitive area of the boys team.  Like many, he immediately became frustrated because it did not come natural and was harder than he thought.  The difference in his case was that he faced the challenge by working harder to prove to himself and others that he could compete and has outperformed expectations.  Tyree told me that "he couldn't do it", but his actions told me that he thought he could.  He wanted to learn.  He asked for drills, performed them and brought a positive attitude towards the team.  There are many more great success stories this year, I just hope we can learn from Tyree.

I promised a video of his dunk in the JV would be put on my site.  Take a look.
